UN Development Assistance Framework

What is UNDAF?

The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) is a planning framework for the development operations of the UN system at the country level: (Source: Action 10a SG Reform; UNDAF Guidelines, Section 1 - Definition of the UNDAF). The UNDAF defines:
  • Common objectives.
  • Common strategies of development assistance.
  • Common timeframe for design and follow up.
  • Programme resources framework.
  • Business plan of the United Nations.

The objective of the UNDAF is to aim for greater impact of United Nations system cooperation on the development and well-being of the people. A common United Nations response to a country's development challenges in pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals.

The UN Country Team based in Fiji has developed UNDAFs for four countries (Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu) for the period of 2003-2007.
